June is National Safety Month. And while it’s a good time for everyone to pause and refocus on safety, keeping workers safe on the job site, in the office and at home is a 24/7/365 commitment. ModSpace is committed to putting safety first and proud to work with many companies that do the same.
TEXO Association is one example. As the largest commercial contractors association in Texas and one of the largest affiliates of The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), TEXO expects to train 6,000 workers this year. To help TEXO facilitate its Safety First training program, ModSpace recently donated this modular building to use as a training center. We hope the new facility serves the trainers and their students well.
Construction is becoming increasingly complicated. New and changing codes and regulations, evolving building materials, the increasing use of subcontractors and greater pressure to deliver projects within very tight timelines all require skillful planning and precise execution. Much of this depends on the work done before construction starts. Intelligent planning can ensure your project runs smoothly from start to finish. To help deliver as promised, here are 10 tips for setting your construction project up for success.
1. Start early
While lead times are usually beyond your control, starting your planning the moment a project is [Read more…] about 10 Tips for Setting Your Construction Project Up for Success
Falls from heights continue to be the leading cause of injuries and fatalities on the jobsite. In 2016, OSHA issued 6,906 violations for fall protection (Standard: 1926.501), the most commonly cited violation. The Army Corps of Engineers recently began requiring comprehensive training for anyone supervising work done at heights. The requirement sets a higher standard for fall protection training that is likely to resonate throughout the construction industry.
Fall protection authorities LJB, Inc. created a 3-day course in accordance with the US ACE EM-385 and ANSI Z-359 [Read more…] about ModSpace Hosts Competent Person Fall Protection Training
With this in mind, here are some codes and information regarding fall protection that every project manager and worker should fully understand before stepping onto a job site. Because regulations can change, it’s important that you consult the appropriate professionals when considering fall protection compliance.
Meet or exceed these codes:
- Construction – OSHA 1926
- Construction Fall Protection – OSHA 1926.500-502(including Subpart M)
- General Industry – OSHA 1910
- Fall Protection – ANSI Z359 – 2007, 2012 & 2016 and ANSI A10.32-2012
- Canadian Fall Protection – CSA Z259.16
- EM-385 – Fall protection training requirements for competent persons on site
Construction codes and regulations are constantly changing, while new ones are added. Increasingly complex designs and tight specifications are making projects more challenging. Tighter budgets and timelines are critical to success. To deliver projects on time and as promised, construction teams must include a diverse set of skills, use the latest technologies and continually educate themselves on the latest changes and trends.
ModSpace has the largest in-house team of design and construction professionals in the modular building industry. The ModSpace Construction Services Team works alongside the company’s branch-based teams to create buildings with national know-how and consistency and the detailed understanding of regional and local requirements.
The architectural, structural and MEP team uses the latest BIM software (Revit) for demonstrating solutions at the early stages of a project. They also use a cloud-based project management system from Autodesk to keep projects on track.
This team of veteran estimators, project managers and administrative support operates under established procedures that include strict standards for safety, quality and project administration. They also use a customized estimating, pricing and proposal generation software that gives prospective clients more information, so critical project decisions are easier from the start.
Trends and Training
The Construction Services Team recently convened for a week-long training and innovation summit at the ModSpace corporate office in Berwyn, PA. The summit kicked off with an in-depth review and discussion about new building codes and their implications.
Then team also met in smaller groups for more tactical discussions. The pre-construction group discussed emerging trends and best practices for scope of work development, needs assessments, developing effective solutions and estimating. The construction team spent their time training on safety, quality, documentation, communication, general project admin best practices. The design and development team evaluated new trends in architecture and engineering, especially in regards to new products and innovation in modular structures.
Though the summit has passed, training and innovation are an ongoing initiative for the entire Construction Services Team. Look for more information on the CS team and their project management tips soon.
